| IF
YOUR CHILD IS MISSING |
|
| * |
Immediately search the area your child was last seen. |
| * |
If
at home, search every room, bathroom (inside tub, shower, vanity)
search under beds, behind couches, in closets, inside large
appliances, inside laundry hampers, in piles of cloths, in the
garage, inside and under any vehicles (including locked trucks),
pool, sheds, trees, inside or behind bushes, or any conceivable
space or location a child can hide. |
| * |
After
searching the home and the immediate area if you can not find
your child immediately dial 911, to notify your local police. |
| * |
If
your child is missing from a store, mall, or any other place
away from the home, notify security and/or facility manager
for a lock down (Code Adam). Then immediately dial 911, to notify
your local police. |
| * |
When
contacting the police request them to immediately enter your
child into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Missing
Persons File. There is no waiting period for entry into NCIC
for children under age 18. |
| * |
Upon
police arrival, provide them with your DNA LifePrint Child Safety
Profile, which includes your child’s FBI Certified Ten-Digit
Biometric Fingerprints, DNA Sample, Recent High-Quality Color
Digital Photo, Statistical Information, and the answers to the
most frequently asked questions by law enforcement. |
| * |
If
your child is missing from home – Preserve the scene by
limiting access to your home and the area where your child was
last seen. Don’t allow anything to be removed from your
home until the police arrive and have collected all possible
evidence. |
| * |
After
you have reported your child missing to law enforcement, call
the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Their
toll-free telephone number is: 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678). |
| * |
Contact
the media immediately. The media is very important in the search
for a missing child. Media publicity is a powerful way to generate
leads concerning a missing child. One story (with a recent photo)
about your missing child on the evening news is equivalent to
thousands of posters and flyers. |
